The GuitarSarasota story

By Thomas Koch, Founding President, GuitarSarasota

GuitarSarasota founder and president Thomas Koch.

GuitarSarasota is a non-profit organization that promotes the education, appreciation and cultural significance of the classical guitar as a solo and chamber music instrument. GuitarSarasota has been in existents since January 2006. Its inaugural concert was February 18, 2006 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sarasota, Florida.

Over the years we presented many concerts with outstanding artists from around the globe. At the same time, we invited some of the most distinguished teachers of the classical guitar to teach master classes to local and regional students. Instructors came from the Manhattan School of Music in New York, the Cleveland Institute of Music, Chicago College for the Performing Arts at Roosevelt University, the Hochschule für Musik Weimar in Germany, and several other institutions.

In the past, over twenty classical guitar students from schools like Booker High School VPA in Sarasota, Southeast High School VPA in Bradenton, Manatee Community College, Hillsborough Community College, Stetson University, Florida Gulf Coast University and Miami University were able to attend those master classes – free of charge. Thanks to sponsorships by GuitarSarasota.

GuitarSarasota is a member driven organization that holds its monthly meetings, six times a year at Art Center Sarasota, where everybody is invited to participate in lectures, mini recitals and socializing.
